Legend has it that 2000 years ago in the depths of hell, a demon rebelled against the devil, waging a one-man war in support of the human world.
In the present, Dante, a private investigator of the supernatural, realises that the devil is rallying to rise again against mankind. Deep within Dante's blood lies the power of ancient demons and as his power builds he transforms into a demon state where he can use his power against evil he encounters.
Commencing his battle against the demonic legions with just a sword and his twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory, Dante will soon come across more powerful weapons, such as a shotgun to aid him in his mission. However, to defeat the devil Dante must also discover special weapons possessing various elemental powers. When channelled correctly these weapons will allow Dante to call upon demonic energy and launch powerful attacks against a range of enemies.

Devil May Cry 2
Devil May Cry 2 is the sequel to Devil May Cry and once again casts you as Dante, the demon slayer.
You control Dante as you battle demons through various levels, ultimately reaching the conclusion and to find out just why these demons are trying to kill everyone. To aid you in your quest, you once again have your trusty sword and various attributes, as well as new moves, like running on walls, aerial kicks, and multi-directional shooting.
This time around, Dante is not alone, as you have a partner, named Lucia. Just as much of an asskicker as Dante, Lucia utilizes a kind of knife which she can rapidly throw at her enemies.
All the special skills from the first game are here, again activated by your Devil Trigger, which has been improved for the sequel's release.

Devil May Cry 3
Dante returns in this prequel to the first Devil May Cry. The story focuses on Dante's back story, mainly on why he is feuding with his brother. The game is considered to be the hardest of the series. It has a high production value with grand music, a lush atmosphere, compelling characters, and a visually impressive upgraded graphics engine with lighting and shadow effects. An all-new Style system that allows you to select your fighting style has been incorporated into this game. The game itself is non-stop action up until Dante reaches Hellgate.
Devil May Cry 4
Devil May Cry 4 is the second sequel to the original Devil May Cry game.
This time the player gets cast as Nero, a member of the Order of the Sword who worships Sparda, in addition to playing as the previous games' protagonist, Dante. The game follows the story of Nero in which witnesses the assassination of the leader of the Order of the Sword, Sanctus, by no other than Dante. The murder causes chaos and Sanctus' deputy, Credo, orders Nero to go after Dante, who is heading for Fortuna Castle.
Nero is equipped with a sword (Red Queen), a revolver (Blue Rose), and powers from his Devil Bringer arm that works like Dante's Devil Trigger. They also give Nero special abilities: pulling and pushing enemies, slamming them on the ground and zooming across areas. Overall gameplay with Nero is still hack-and-slash but with fresh attack styles and techniques. Dante joins later in the game for some levels of his own. His gameplay stays mostly intact with the four attack styles: Trickster, Sword Master, Gunslinger, and Royal Guard.
The Windows version adds the Legendary Dark Knight mode with a large number of enemies on the screen along with the Turbo mode at a faster speed. The cut-scenes run at 120 frames per second while the console sequences are run at 30. Network ranking is however, not supported.
