Bloody Roar

Unlike other beat 'em ups, Bloody Roar has a unique twist. At a press of a button, your character changes into a beast of unique strength and ability over the characters normal attacks. Each character has his/her own beast to transform into, and most battles come down to how you use this transformation to your advantage.

The same style of TekkenStreet Fighter and Dead or Alive is also re-lived, with over-the-top special moves and combos in a 3D like atmosphere.
Bloody Roar 2
Bloody Roar II PlayStation Front Cover  Bloody Roar II PlayStation Back Cover

Bloody Roar II is a 3D fighting game of the Tekken, or more accurately, Fighting Vipers school of gameplay. The hook of the Bloody Roar series is that your combatants can transform into animalistic versions of themselves -- human-animal hybrids with a thirst for violence. During each round you can fight as a person or transform into a beast when your meter fills up. As an animal you'll have more moves at your disposal with which to destroy your opponent.

Bloody Roar 3

The third edition of the beast transforming beat 'em up series includes 12 gameplay modes including the usual arcade, versus and practice along with survival (beat as many opponents as possible before dying) and 8 gameplay modes that can only be played once you unlock them.

The same gameplay style created in the 2 PlayStation versions continues here, where your character has the ability to morph into a beast during play to inflict more damage and combos on the enemy. However, each arena in the game now has breakable landscapes in the style of Dead or Alive 2, while the graphics have been improved greatly to use the available power of the PS2.
Bloody Roar 4
Bloody Roar 4 PlayStation 2 Front Cover   Bloody Roar 4 PlayStation 2 Back Cover

During the XGC (X-Genome Code) Incident one year ago, riots raged over the earth by beasts that did not show the XCG, and all over the country small earthquakes shook the land. The cause was unknown, but as the Crest Incident came to an end and the rioting and earthquakes subsided, people began to claim that all was due to the influence of the Stone Seal. Although the Stone Seal has been locked away, the rioting and earthquakes have returned. This time, the incidents are on a larger scale than those of a year ago. What could be behind it all?

Bloody Roar 4 is the last title in the series, and is once again a full-3D fighting game featuring the series' trademark transformation abilities. Unlike previous titles in the series, the beast gauge now acts as its own health bar; if a character's health gauge is depleted, they will automatically transform. The game features 18 playable fighters and a variety of game modes, including standard arcade, versus, time-attack, training, and survival modes. Of special mention is the career mode, in which fighting battles will earn so-called "DNA points," which can be spent on abilities and equipment to customize a character for use in other modes.

Blue Angels : Formation Flight Simulator
Blue Angels: Formation Flight Simulation DOS Front Cover   Blue Angels: Formation Flight Simulation DOS Back Cover

Blue Angels: Formation Flight Squadron is an F/A-18 flight simulator, with a focus on Air Shows. The Blue Angels are the United States' Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, known for tight maneuvers and precision flying. The game attempts to replicate this by offering formation flying, having to react and coordinate with other Blue Angels in the air.

The player can practice any maneuver in the simulator: dozens of high, low and flat maneuvers, Diamond 360 passes, left rolls and 4-point rolls or an entire air show for example. Other than practice events, the player can perform an air show or just go for a free flight. In the air, players fly from a 1st person perspective inside the plane or a 3rd person perspective from a chase plane behind the player. Additionally there are 4 different camera views and 3 different gameplay speeds. After the flight, an analysis is displayed of the flight and the player's performance graded.

Blue Dragon is a traditional turn-based Japanese role-playing game, designed, written and supervised by Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame. There are no random encounters in the game, and the player can always see the enemies, perform back attacks on them, or run away and avoid the battle. All battles take place at separate screens, and it is not possible to move on the battle field. The main game combat element is that each member of the party has their own shadow monster. Kluke has a blue phoenix, Jiro has a blue minotaur, Shu has a blue dragon, etc. Each of those shadows has a variety of skills, spells and attacks available, and as they level up, additional skills are unlocked.

Designed by former Police Quest mastermind Jim WallsBlue Force is an adventure game mostly similar to Walls' previous games with Sierra, where real police procedures are blended into the gameplay. Visually it is also inspired by late SCI engine games, with carefully crafted backgrounds overlayed with video-captured sprites as characters. Interface, however, is different, as the player has the complete inventory on the bottom side of the screen and actions (walk, look talk and use) can be reached using the right button.

Blur
Blur Xbox 360 Front Cover  Blur Xbox 360 Back Cover

Blur is an action-oriented racing game very similar to the Mario Kart series. But instead of driving on go-carts through colorful environments shooting bananas and turtle shells, the game features dozens of licensed sports-cars from several different manufacturers including the Audi Quattro, the Nissan 350Z and the Shelby GT-500 racing around fantasy and real-world tracks.

Scattered around these tracks are three different types of power-ups including a repair kit and a shield as well as five different weapons, like the target-seeking Shunt, which of course are used to get rid of the competition. To that end, each car is very unique in its statistics like strength, acceleration and such, making it a very tactical decision which one to use for the different types of races and tracks. The events include normal races with and without power-ups as well as pure destruction focused ones either taking place in specially build arenas or on normal race tracks.

The core of the game is the single-player campaign. Divided into nine groups and taking place at over 14 different real-world locations, the player has to make his way to the top. Each group includes several different events including a boss fight. If the player wins the latter, he earns their cars including the unique mods and finishing. To unlock new events and groups, the player has to earn lights - up to seven for each event. While he gets five lights for taking first place, the final two can only be obtained by pleasing the fans.

Each event features a Fan Target and a Fan Run. Fan Runs are mini-challenges which are activated during a race and require the player to drive through a series of glowing arcs - while the normal race still continues. Besides a bonus light, this will also earn him additional fans. The rest of the fans which are needed to reach the Fan Target are "collected" by shooting and destroying other cars or by impressing with cool driving skills like making drifts or long jumps and such.

The game also offers a multiplayer mode for up to four players on one machine or up to 20 online. While offline multiplayer only allows the players to choose from all the available cars, online multiplayer offers unlockable car upgrades and mods. In addition the player advances in rank by winning events. Once he reaches level 50, he can choose to enter Legendary mode. Similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the player then loses all his accomplishments and is reset to rank 1 but earns an exclusive Legendary car for doing so. This reset can be done up to ten times.

BMX XXX
BMX XXX PlayStation 2 Front CoverBMX XXX PlayStation 2 Back Cover

Slightly unusual for a tricks/stunt game, BMX XXX adds a twist to its genre by employing themes involving foul language, nudity and toilet humour.

The "Hardcore Tour" mode has you playing the levels, pulling off tricks and completing goals to unlock things such as new levels or stripper videos. The goals are of the odd variety, including things like collecting yellow snow for an icecream man, or gathering empty cans for a homeless guy. Also have to watch out for a health bar which accounts for your injuries and can make you start over levels if you run out of it.

Do well enough in the game and you unlock a topless mode, where the riders are all.. well..

There's also a 'create-a-ride' mode, and a two player split screen option, with different games of its own. The game plays on Acclaim's own Dave Mirra series' engine.

Bolt
Bolt PlayStation 2 Front Cover  Bolt PlayStation 2 Back Cover

Bolt is based on the animated movie of the same name. It stars the dog Bolt, who plays a dog with super powers on a TV show, and his owner Penny. However, the movie does not follow the story of the movie (Bolt starts to believe his super powers are real), but completely takes place within the fictional TV series. The plot is about rescuing Penny's father who was kidnapped by the evil Dr. Calisto.

While playing through the 25 missions, the control regularly switches between Bolt and Penny. Bolt's sections are focused on melee combat: Bolt use both super powers (limited by an energy bar) and regular attacks while fighting against multiple enemies at once.

Penny's missions are divided between platforming and stealth segments. During the linear platform levels, Penny jumps over gaps and uses her Wheelbar (a pole with wheels on both ends which is used to attach to certain ledges). When stuck, the player can activate Penny's enhanced vision which shows where the Wheelbar needs to be used. During stealth, the goal is to reach certain points unseen. Guards can either be taken out instantly with a stealth attack from behind (the enhanced vision helps by showing the guards' cone of sight) or, if Penny is caught, by solving a quick-time event. Sometimes Penny also has to hack computers with a mini game (which can also be started separately from the main menu): she controls a probe and shoots other drones. The controls use the known dual-stick-shooter style.
