Belief & Betrayal

Belief & Betrayal is a classic point & click adventure by the Italian development team Artematica.

American journalist Jonathan Danter hears of the recent murder of his uncle Frank, who has been considered dead for years. In fact he has been working for the Vatican's intelligence service. Jonathan travels to the funeral in London and gets involved in a church conspiracy which reaches back to the day where Judas betrayed Jesus Christ. With the help of his uncle's assistant Katrin and the computer expert Damian he tries to solve the mystery and visits famous locations like the Cathedral of Chartres throughout Europe.

Gameplay is like in most other adventures. The three parallel playable characters Jonathan, Katrin and Damian examine, pick up or use objects, solve riddles and talk with other persons. A new feature in Belief & Betrayal is a "thought inventory" in which the characters record their ideas about different problems. You can use the notes with objects or with your communicator. With the communicator you contact your partners and send them information which may help them in their current situation. By pressing space key you activate an in-game help just like in Secret Files: Tunguska which highlights all on-screen items.

In futuristic Australia, there are giant cities owned solely by corporations, separated by a giant wasteland known as The Gap. When Robert Foster's Gap-dwelling tribe is killed by soldiers from Union City who capture him, everything changes for him. After a narrow escape from the helicopter bringing him there as it inexplicably crashes, Robert and his droid Joey must search the decaying city, attempting to befriend both the snobby rich and the frustrated poor as the two attempt to get out of the city, but in the middle of everything they uncover the dark truth about LINC, the bizarre computer which makes the city tick.

The game uses the Virtual Theatre engine from Lure of the Temptress, which allows its characters to move freely independent of the player's input, making the game world more dynamic than it is usually the case in comparable games. Otherwise, the engine provides traditional point-and-click adventure gameplay.

The iPhone version introduces a touch-based interface, new animated movies by Dave Gibbons, a context-sensitive hint system and a remastered audio track.

Beowulf

Beowulf: The Game is a hack-and-slash game based on Robert Zemeckis' animated movie adaptation of the poem Beowulf. Gameplay combines elements from the Tomb Raider and God of War series.

As Beowulf, the player fights his way through a number of episodes commanding his band of merry Thanes via a small selection of commands. Beowulf can chant with his band to boost the morale and max out damage out, triggered through a rhythm button mashing mini-game. There are more mini-games similar to the chanting throughout the game. Some appear right in the middle of combat while trying to grapple a large monster similar to sequences in God of War.

Beowulf can lift enemies with brute strength and hurl them in any direction, even at other enemies. He can also alternate weapons by picking up new ones, lying discarded on the ground, or from racks of weapons that may be found in many places. Also in combat Beowulf can enter Carnal Mode that increases his strength but demoralizes Thanes, so players won't be able to use it frequently or the entire kingdom will be sad and dismal. In certain areas the player needs to find a path to continue, sometimes by climbing walls and grabbing small ledges. All characters are voiced by the original actors who starred in the film.

Bet on Soldier : Blood Sport
Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport Windows Front Cover  Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport Windows Back Cover

For 80 years, the world is in a total war. Fighting is not only a matter of being alive, it's a manner to make money too. Populations bet on different soldiers in 3 distinct leagues of the TV Show B.O.S, the Bet On Soldier. These champions must kill each others in order to earn prizes and wagers. You are Nolan Daneworth. Your family was killed by two champions of the BOS. You enter the BOS in order to seek revenge, and you must climb the ladder if you want to meet them on the battlefield.

The gameplay is simple: you have classic missions (destroy a base or infiltrate a bunker etc) and you must fight against 2-4 champions of the BOS during these missions. You earn money by killing soldiers (head shots worth more than simple killing).

With this money, you can buy armors, weapons and upgrades. You can also repair your armor at the different repairing posts. There are no medikit in this game, so this armor is your only one protection, so be careful with it.

Betrayal at Krondor

Based on Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar saga (and co-written by Feist himself), Betrayal at Krondor is a medieval fantasy-themed role-playing game set in the Riftwar universe.

The story begins as Gorath, a moredhel (dark elf) renegade, who intended to warn the people of Krondor of the upcoming moredhel invasion, is attacked by an assassin. Locklear, a nobleman who serves the crown of Krondor, and a young magician named Owyn decide to accompany Gorath to Krondor, where they'll have to think of a plan to stop the moredhel leader Delekhan.

The game's story is divided into nine chapters. Each chapter has a goal to achieve before moving on to the next one, but the player is given considerable freedom to explore the vast world of the game and undertake side quests. Gorath, Locklear, and Owyn are the first party of characters the player controls; however, characters may leave and others may join the party later, as dictated by the events of the story.

Exploration in Betrayal at Krondor takes place in a 3D world viewed from first-person perspective. Towns, however, are presented as a series of still screens representing locations (temple, tavern, inn, etc.). Combat takes place on separate grid-based screens. The player moves the characters on these screens in a turn-based fashion, attacking physically, defending, and casting spells.

Only two character classes are present in the game: fighters and magicians. Fighters use swords or crossbows (for long-ranged attacks); magicians can fight with staves, or cast spells. Characters have four attributes: health, strength, speed, and stamina. The latter is depleted when a character uses weapons or casts magic. The role-playing system of the game relies on skills. Each character has a set of skills, ranging from weapon proficiencies to abilities such as bartering or stealth. Skills improve after continuous usage. The player can "emphasize" a skill in order to make it improve faster.

Beverly Hills Cop

Eddie Murphy became a star in the police film Beverly Hills Cop, and it was this license that Tynesoft used to create a game featuring four distinct sub-games, each of which can be practiced from the main screen in some versions. First Axel Foley visits a warehouse to shoot out some bad guys in a Green Beret-influenced sequence.

The second level (first on the C64 version) involves driving after 3 lorries full of weapons, and shooting them out one by one, Chase HQ-style. Avoid contact and stay on the road to complete this. Next you must cross the grounds of a mansion, shooting anyone who gets in your way.

The final section is set within the mansion, and is first-person 3D, although with few movement angles and only one enemy on screen at a time.
