Fight Club
Fight Club Xbox Front Cover  Fight Club Xbox Back Cover

Fight Club is based on David Fincher's film adaption of Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name. Fed up with consumerist American culture, a fight club is founded as a new type of therapy through bare-knuckle fighting. The game focuses on the fights and uses many characters and environments from the original story. You can create a new fighter or clone one of the generated characters. There are three general fighting styles to choose from: grappling, kung fu or brawling. The moves range from basic punches to devastating moves with broken bones, ripped clothes and real-time facial deformation. After each successful fight, you earn Character Development Points (CDP's) which can be used to upgrade or heal your character.

Aside from the regular arcade, survival and training mode, there is a story mode in which you need to work your way up as a rookie to become a key player in Project Mayhem in a storyline very loosely based on the original plot. Both the PS2 and Xbox version have an online multiplayer mode as well.

The game music has tracks by famous bands such as The Dust Brothers, Limp Bizkit, Korn and Queens of the Stone Age.

Fighter History Dynamite
Fighter

Fighter's History Dynamite is a 2D versus fighting game similar to Street Fighter II. It takes place one year after what happened in Fighter's History. After being defeated in The "Great Grapple", a martial arts tournament organized by himself, the mysterious K invites fighters from all over the world once again. The nine characters from the previous game (Ray, Feilin, Ryoko, Matlok, Samchay, Lee, Mizoguchi, Jean and Marstorius) are present, along with two new ones (Yungmie and Zazie). The two hidden characters from the previous game, Clown and Karnov, are also available as playable characters in this game.

Each character has two punches (light and hard) and two kicks (light and hard) and one or more unique throw moves. Special moves are performed by using control sequences such as moving the directional pad down, down-forward, forward and pressing a punch button. Combos can be performed by connecting sequences of moves. A "one-two attack" system was introduced in this game: pressing a hard attack button while performing a light attack or blocking reduces the interval between light attacks, making combos easier to perform.

There are two rounds in each stage, and the object of each round is to drain the opponent's energy in order to win the battle. If there is a tie after two rounds, a third round is played. The animated background for each character changes from the first to the second and third rounds. There is a time limit, and if this expires, the player with the less energy loses. The game can be played in single player or two player versus mode.

Fighting Force

Fighting Force is a 3D fighting "beat-em-up" in which the player can choose to control one of the four available characters. Each of the characters has his or her own advantages and weaknesses (e.g. superior strength but slow movement), and each possesses a powerful special move that depletes their health. Besides fists, they can use objects such as chairs, trash cans, and car tires, and weapons such as knives to fight the minions of the evil criminal mastermind Dr. Zeng who aspires to control the city.

Ferrari Formula One
Ferrari Formula One DOS Front Cover  Ferrari Formula One DOS Back Cover

With the full support of Scuderia Ferrari, Formula One racing was recreated in detail in this simulation, with the top drivers and teams of 1986 to compete against for the most successful F1 team of all. You job does not start at the racetrack; perfecting the car at the Maranello factory, in the wind tunnel to sort aerodynamics, and at the test track of Fiorano, is all required to get the most competitive car you can.

You can jump straight into the races however, either as one-offs or a full championship season. Races can last from 18km to the full 300+km distance, with all the practice and qualifying sessions. Car setup at the track involves selecting wing settings, tyre compounds, fuel usage (important in the days of turbocharged engines) and the like. The action is viewed from inside the cockpit, with rear-view mirrors to help prevent collisions.

Fiendish Freddy Big Top o Fun
Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O' Fun Amiga Front Cover  Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O' Fun Amiga Back Cover

The Big Top O' Fun circus is in deep trouble: due tonight is the payment of a $10.000 loan to the Big Greedy Bank. The evening's performance must bring in that money or the circus will be seized. The bank does not play fair, though: they send the evil clown Fiendish Freddy to sabotage the acts.

The performance consists of six different events. There is a practice mode for single events, and up to five players can compete in the full game, but must reach the $10.000 on their own, not together. The money is awarded by a jury after each act.

The acts are:
  • High Diving: Horace the High Diver must jump from a platform and land on a target down below. While falling, Horace must be kept spinning by moving the joystick while at the same time staying over the target. Once he is spinning fast enough, he must perform a pose indicated on the screen by pulling the joystick in a certain direction, after which a new pose is required, continuing until Horace hits the target (or the ground). If completed successfully, the next dive begins from a higher platform, giving Horace more time to perform the poses, while the target gets consecutively smaller. Money is awarded for performing poses if the target is hit. Freddy comes into play if Horace doesn't make a pose in time: he blows Horace off course with a giant fan.
  • Juggling: Jeffy Joe drives across the arena on a unicycle and must catch and juggle items thrown to him by his seal assistant. The act ends successfully after a time limit is up and fails if Joe drops five items. Joe must be maneuvered so that the items land in his outstretched hands. Pushing fire throws the item in his left hand and moves the items in the right hand to the left. In higher levels, a baby comes into play which Joe must throw in such a way that it lands in a carriage. Freddy tries to sabotage the act by distracting the seal and then throwing dangerous items like bombs and missiles. If either is dropped, the act is over. Bombs however can be thrown back to Freddy.
  • Trapeze: Finola must cross the big top by swinging on bars. She gains momentum through joystick moves and must then jump to the next bar by hitting fire at the correct moment. After a while, Finola must also maneuver through obstacles like paper targets and flaming hoops, which sometimes bob up and down. If Finola takes too long hanging on a bar without going forward, Freddy will arrive flying via helicopter blades and cut the ropes.
  • Knife Throw: Knancy Knife has been blindfolded and strapped to a rotating wheel along with a number of balloons. There is a time limit and a limited number of knives to throw. The goal is of course to pop all the balloons without hurting Knancy. If she is hit, she screams out and several knives are removed from the stock. Freddy tries to sabotage the act by occasionally throwing smoke bombs for confusion.
  • Tightrope: Tony Tiptoe tries to cross the tent on a tightrope. He is moved forward by pushing up on the joystick. He will soon begin to lose his balance and must be put back straight by corrective joystick movements to the left or right. If his balance gets really off, his balance pole turns red and he screams out "Whoa". If he remains in this position for more than a second, he falls off and it's over. Freddy has several tricks up his sleeve in this act: if Tony takes too long too cross, he pulls out a cannon and blasts him out of the way. In later levels, he flies around the tent and tries to push Tony off or throws saw blades at him. These can be deflected with the pole by pressing fire.
  • Cannonball: Fernando, the Human Cannonball climbs into a cannon to be shot across the big top and hopefully land on his target. His assistant Lisa loads the cannon with a random amount of gun powder, which determines the thrust. Afterwards, the target must be placed somewhere along the tent, moving it closer or farther away depending on the amount of gun powder loaded. Once that is done, Lisa lights the fuse and the cannon starts rotating. It must be stopped at the right angle by pushing fire, which launches Fernando, hopefully towards the target and not the ground. Freddy comes into play when placing the target. Taking too long allows Freddy to put a giant cork into the cannon, with explosive results.

F.E.A.R
F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon Windows Front Cover  F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon Windows Back Cover

F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon is a horror first person shooter (FPS) that resembles a cross between Doom 3, Half-Life, and the Ring horror movies. Demons are replaced by cloned soldiers and the element of horror revolves around an image of a spectral girl always appearing when least expected for a few fleeting moments.

The player sets out as a member of a specialized strike force dealing with unknown threats. Initially, the player starts with mundane weapons, which are well presented, and progress gradually towards more sci-fi ones as the danger increases. The player can also call upon a bullet-time ability which slows down time around the player and is realised with impressive visual and aural effects by the game engine.

The game takes place in a certain multi-billion aerospace installation which has been hijacked by an elite team of cloned soldiers gone rogue and an unknown supernatural force (which is likely controlling or affecting them in some way). Both threats must be identified and countered.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is the sequel to F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon and continues the series' trademark blend of supernatural horror and suspense. Many mechanics from the original first-person shooter have made their way into the game, like slow motion bullet time, and intelligent AI. New gameplay elements have also been introduced, like grab and drag movable cover, combat mechs, and iron sight aiming. The environments are now more open and less linear than those in the first game, and are also more diverse.

Point-Man, the protagonist of the first F.E.A.R. has been replaced by a new playable character, Michael Becket, a Delta Force operator who has been sent on a mission to arrest Armacham president Genevieve Aristide approximately 30 minutes before the ending of the first game. Alma, the strange little girl returns to give you scares and also assist you at some points.

The game only takes the original game into account and ignores all events from the expansion packs Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate.

Fear Effect
Fear Effect PlayStation Front Cover  Fear Effect PlayStation Back Cover

It starts as a simple assignment for the three mercenaries - the beautiful, mysterious Hana, the former army officer Glas, and the ruthless killer Deke. Somewhere in the futuristic Hong-Kong, full of huge corporations, flying cars and helicopters, home for the famous Triad mafia, they have to find the young Wee Ming Lam, the daughter of a powerful gangster. But Hana and her partners don't suspect that the search for Wee Ming will lead them not only to very dangerous areas of Hong-Kong, but to outskirt villages infected by zombies, a dubious restaurant-brothel, and the Chinese hell, where they'll have to confront Yim Lau Wong himself - the Chinese equivalent of the Western Satan.

The gameplay of Fear Effect is similar to survival horror titles such as Resident Evil, but it also features many pure action elements and arcade-like sequences, where precise timing matters. The player controls Hana, Glas, or (in a few instances) Deke during different chapters of the story. Player characters can crouch, sneak on enemies, and roll forward or to the sides. There are many human as well as monster enemies to eliminate or avoid. Characters can run and shoot at the same time, as well as use two weapons at once to combat multiple enemies. A considerable portion of the gameplay is dedicated to puzzle-solving.

Instead of the traditional health bar characters have a "fear meter", which turns red and eventually kills the character whenever he or she is damaged or found in a particularly stressful situation. The functional difference between the fear meter and a regular health bar is the possibility to restore it to a normal green color by reducing the character's stress, e.g. solving a puzzle or killing an enemy in a stealthy way.

The game's 3D character models are unshaded, aiming to resemble cel-shading technique and anime art. The backgrounds are pre-rendered and often consist of streaming or looping full-motion video. The story unfolds through numerous pre-rendered movies.

Fear Effect 2 : Retro Helix

The year is 2048, and a new terrifying disease known as EINDS (Environmentally Induced Nucleotides Degeneration Syndrome) is rapidly spreading, having already claimed over one billion victims. The disease attack directly the human cell DNA, and no cure is known. Crime flourishes, and scientists fear that the DNA manipulation may lead to unforeseen disasters that would eventually destroy mankind.

Four people with different pasts and motivations arrive in Hong-Kong. Hana Tsu-Vachel is a young woman of French and Chinese descent, who was once a member of the criminal Triad organization, and now takes high-risk assignments in order to buy back her contract. Royce Glas is a former commander in the US military and an ex-member of a secret organization, now a mercenary, persecuted by his former employers. Jacob "Deke" Decourt is a professional killer from Australia, whose life purpose is to enjoy his bloody work. Rain is a mysterious young woman, found by Hana during one of her missions, lying unconscious in a garden. The search for a cure against EINDS leads these people to exotic locations, where Chinese folk tales and ancient legends co-exist with our reality.

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix is a prequel to Fear Effect, describing events that lead up to the beginning of the previous game. The gameplay is very similar to that of the predecessor, combining shooting, puzzles, and action set pieces. While the first game only featured a survival horror-style character-dependent control scheme, the prequel allows the player to switch to 3D camera-dependent controls. The game is more puzzle-oriented than the first Fear Effect, and contains more locations to explore. A few new weapons and items have been added.

The visual style of the preceding game is also present in this installment: the player navigates unshaded 3D anime-like character models over backgrounds, which are composed of pre-rendered images and looping or streaming full-motion video.

Felix the Cat
Felix the Cat NES Front Cover  Felix the Cat NES Back Cover

Felix The Cat is a platformer based on the famous cartoon character.

The Professor has kidnapped Kitty, Felix girlfriend, trying to exchange her for Felix' magic bag. Naturally, Felix is not going to let himself be blackmailed, and instead sets out to free Kitty.

There are four different types of levels.
  • Typical platforming levels in which Felix has to make his way to the exit while jumping about obstacles and chasms, killing enemies using different weapons.
  • Swimming levels in which Felix rides a float or on the back of a dolphin.
  • Levels that take place entirely under water.
  • Flying levels that put Felix in control of different flying devices, such as a plane, a hot-air balloon or an umbrella.

Throughout all levels, Felix can collect cat symbols to improve his weapons. After collecting a certain number of cat symbols, milk bottles or hearts will appear. Hearts improve Felix' current weapon. What types of weapon Felix can use, depends on what type of level he is in. There are lots of different weapons ranging from a boxing glove to motorcycles to tanks to spaceships. All weapons that are better than the standard weapon have an energy bar that diminishes over time and can be refilled by collecting milk bottles. Getting hit by an enemy decreases the level of Felix' current weapon. If he gets hit while carrying the standard weapon, he loses a life.

The Game Boy version plays virtually identically to the NES version, but features less levels.
