Foreman for Real

Before marketing fat-reducing grills, boxing legend George Foreman endorsed this boxing game with a 3rd-person view similar to Punch Out. A full range of punches and jabs are available, with full round-by-round scoring from the judges. You can choose from 3-12 rounds, and there are 2 camera views as well as an automatic switch option.

You can play simple exhibition matches or tournaments, or launch into a career mode. In this you start at the bottom of the world rankings, and must reach the top by beating the game's players, who other than George are all fictitious boxers with varying strengths and weaknesses. The coach gives advice before each fight to help highlight weaknesses in your play. There are passwords for each round.

Forza Horizon
Forza Horizon Xbox 360 Front Cover  Forza Horizon Xbox 360 Back Cover

Forza Horizon is the fifth game in the racing series but is considered an arcade spin-off rather than a true simulation entry. It is done by a different development team but with the original developers involved. It introduces an open world concept to the series similar to Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012), Burnout Paradise and FUEL. It has a day and night cycle and it is set in Colorado, USA, where the player participates in the fictitious Horizon Festival with a light story. The Horizontal Festival is a central location on the map that acts as a hub to buy new cars, sign up for new events, get paint jobs etc. After a short race to get access to the event, the player is free to leave at any time and explore the surroundings. While the realistic physics the games are known for along with the large variety of cars are retained, novelties include AI traffic with a more forgiving crash system, off-road racing on dirt tracks, and a looser atmosphere with announcers, rivals that shout one-liners, radio DJs on three stations, and an audience at the festival.

The player starts as the last of 250 competitors and has to make his way up by participating in races and gaining popularity. The competition is divided into different Horizon Event tiers represented by wristbands of different colours that need to be earned to progress. Events include point-to-point races, circuit races, rally tracks, illegal street races, skill challenges, speed trap records, races against helicopters, hot-air balloons and planes in showcase events, and the ability to directly challenge an opponent while driving around in a one-on-one sprint towards a random destination from the challenge point. Rather than pure racing, street cred has to be earned as well through continuous sponsor challenges that involve aggressive driving acts such as drifting, jumping over obstacles, near misses, trading paint, passes, burnouts, drafting, or by driving on two wheels. These can be combined into combos and they contribute to a global popularity level, provide credits and consequently open up new events. There are different ranks for each challenge to keep the player going. Vehicles can also drive through fields and use shortcuts by breaking through barriers or other obstacles. Certain events offer restrictions to have the players explore the full catalogue of available vehicles of which many are borrowed from previous Forza games. Next to expensive sports cars there are many other types of vehicles. Certain ones are hidden as barn find cars. Once discovered, they can be restored and are added to the roster. Next to the main credits currency, the player is able to progress faster by purchasing tokens through Microsoft points. Tokens allow the player to get a car without the required credits or provide a double amount of experience in the sponsor challenges for a certain amount of time. Tokens can also be spent on a treasure map to reveal the location of hidden vehicles without having to search them.

The series' paint job creator is still present along with players trading and selling liveries. There are also still different performance upgrades at the festival's mechanic Dak that can lift the slowest vehicles to the higher classes, but the vehicles cannot be customized further anymore. Upgrades can be done manually or automatically, and the game provides a warning when the player attempts to join a race with a vehicle that is not powerful enough. Also kept are the different types of driving assistance that can be toggled. The difficulty is determined through a global and opponent difficulty level, braking, steering, traction control, toggling shifting and the driving line, cosmetic damage, and the rewind function. Disabling assists provides a higher amount of credits that can be won. Rewind provides the ability to pause the game and rewind the gameplay to a certain point when a mistake has been made. Locating challenges is done through a top-down map with the ability to set a destination. For time trials the Rivals system is retained. After each race the player is challenged to beat a friend's time or another player from the global leaderboard that went just a little faster. The opponent is shown as a ghost and the system can be used to keep improving times through new ghosts.

Multiplayer includes regular races through different lobbies based on the skill level. Next to the regular races there are King games of tag in open environments such as a warehouse or a golf course, Infected where one player has to hunt down survivors to infect them and have them join the infected team, and cooperative challenges in a free-roam mode with the entire game world. A final game mode is called Cat and mouse. Players are split up into two teams with one mouse each. The mouse to first reach the finish line wins the game for the entire team, while the cats attempt to slow down and crash the mouse of the other team as much as possible. Some game elements can only be unlocked in the multiplayer portion. Multiplayer comes with a separate leveling system where new cars can be unlocked.

In the single-player there are different outposts that act as smaller hubs. Each outpost offers three PR stunts (break the speed limit, get to a photo shoot without damage, get a certain amount of skill points with a limited amount of time) that can be completed to reduce the cost to fast travel between outposts around the map by 25%, 50% and 100%. The Kinect peripheral is supported through its voice recognition capabilities to activate the GPS. While driving players can for instance use voice commands to change the waypoint to the festival, the next challenge, or the nearest one. Ghosts races can be exported, along with movies and photographs captured in-game. An additional challenge is to discover and destroy 100 discount signs spread over the map to reduce the cost for performance upgrades with 1% for each destroyed sign.

Forza Horizon 2
Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One Front Cover 1st version

Forza Horizon 2 is the sequel to Forza Horizon, the arcade spin-off of the Forza Motorsport racing simulation games presented as an open world racing game. Transitioning to the next generation of Xbox, the two versions of the game largely share the same cars, assets, world and features, but were handled by different developers. Rather than upgrading or downgrading a version for the other platform, they each take a distinct direction based on the same concept and content.

Just like the original game the player participates in the Horizon Racing festival with light story elements. The first game's environment was based on Colorado, USA, and now the sequel draws inspiration from southern France and northern Italy, combined with off-road racing and small villages. By participating in events and championships cash is earned and the character levels up, gaining access to new cars and events, with 210 cars in total. Just like the original game exploring is encouraged to locate hidden cars, and experience and travel banners. Different racers you encounter can be challenged freely and various actions are rewarded with experience (for instance through beating speed traps) or skill points for precision and dangerous actions, especially when linked together in succession. These skill points can be spent on perks. New to this game is the Wheel Spin system where a random sum of money or a car is provided after leveling up.

Cars can be customized through different parts, but also aesthetically through body kits, spoilers and a full livery editor. These customized car designs can be shared. The difficulty can be tweaked through general AI difficulty and assists such as traction control or the ideal racing line. Just like the original game there is an option to rewind a short part after a crash for instance. Online racing includes a road trip, free roam and private matches with various settings. Unique to multiplayer and returning from the original game are game modes such as infected and king. It is possible to join clubs and there are car meets where players can show off their cars to each other. In addition there are leaderboards to compete.

Graphically each version uses a different engine. The Xbox 360 version is based on the original Forza Horizon, while for the Xbox One Forza Motorsport 5 was used as a starting point. Differences are notable in draw distance, density of foliage, shadows, rendering and lighting. While both versions have a day-night cycle like the original game, Xbox One introduces more varied weather conditions with atmospheric effects. Any route is basically the same on both versions, but the Xbox One version has more traffic and more variation in the environmental design. Even though sharing the same game world, the location of events, circuits and side quests (such as bucket list quests where a new car is provided on loan) are unique to each version. The same applies to the showcase events, where you race against a land or air based vehicle, where some content is unique for each version. The Xbox 360 is also more limited in the online gameplay features. On Xbox One for instance it is possible to switch between offline and online racing seamlessly. There are differences in presentation as well, for instance in the ways cars are chosen. Entirely unique to the Xbox One version are Drivatars. These are opponents based on the racing behaviour of the developers and friends. They have different traits and introduce a human elements to the racing behaviour, with errors, collisions, or purposely veering off-road, populating the game world. These can be challenged in head-to-head events.

Forza Horizon 3
Forza Horizon 3 Xbox One Front Cover  Forza Horizon 3 Xbox One Back Cover

Forza Horizon 3 is the third game in the Forza Horizon arcade spin-offs of the Forza Motorsport racing simulation games. This edition it is set in Australia and as before it is centered around a Horizon racing festival. Locations include the coastal hills of Byron Bay, the modern Surfers Paradise in Queensland, but also long stretches of desert and mountains providing more opportunities for off-road racing. The player does not only participate in this edition, but also has a hand in the organization now. Participating in races opens up new events and is rewarded with fans. When a new expansion becomes available the player can choose where to set up the hub. New events can then be created and the player determines which cars to allow, the time of day and conditions, which radio stations to sign up and so on. Races can be customized in design and name with the option to share creations with other players as event blueprints. This time a custom character can also be created as an avatar.

Many types of races from earlier Forza Horizon return as well as street races along with the usual championships, circuit races and exhibition races. Convoy races are a new type based on the feature to form convoys. This is done by honking the horn at Drivatars, AI racers based on the performances of other players, to recruit them and have them earn credits for you. Showcase events return, with spectacular races using vehicles like sports cars, ATVs and trucks in different challenges. There are 350 cars in total and they are unlocked gradually and bought with credits. There are also Bucket List challenges to complete, based on a fixed difficulty level. As usual there is also open world racing without any restrictions. This can be done to visit the different locations, challenge other racers, earn experience through driving, locate hidden cars or destroy the many fast travel discount signs. Items of interest are revealed through a certain driving radius or they can all be unlocked by buying a treasure map. The Promo photo mode returns and there are now tasks to take and share photos. Next to credits as a basic currency, perks can be unlocked. Abilities can be upgraded in three categories, for elements as a festival organizer or as a racer. A first for the Horizon series is the introduction of the main Forza Motorsport auction house where customized cars can be bought and sold. It also provides access to Horizon Edition cars with special XP and credit multiplier stat boosts that otherwise only can be won at a wheel spin when leveling up.

With the second Festival expansion online multiplayer is unlocked and it is cross-platform for up to twelve players. New for this version is the introduction of cooperative races for up to four players. Players join each other games to race together or help complete each other's campaign tasks. It is played in the game of the host and even though there are some voting features, it is always the host who initiates races bringing the players into the race regardless of their position in the game world. Bucket List challenges can be completed this way too. With the fifth Festival expansion the clubs from Horizon 2 are unlocked, as guilds providing credit bonuses and leaderboards. The game integrates support for Microsoft's Groove Music music streaming subscription service as an option next to the regular music tracks.

Forza Horizon 4
Forza Horizon 4 Xbox One Front Cover  Forza Horizon 4 Xbox One Back Cover

Forza Horizon 4 is an open world racing game and the fourth game in the arcade spin-off series of the main Forza Racing series. This edition is set in a fictitious representation of the United Kingdom. The game features hundreds of cars from numerous licensed manufacturers. Players experience the UK in all four seasons of the year using a dynamic weather system, with each season bringing its own challenge through weather, terrain and specific vehicles.

New to this version is a route creator (patched in) which allows players to create their own races. Unlike the AI-controlled Drivatars from the previous editions this version has players compete against real players in a synchronised shared world that supports up to 72 players on a single server. Optionally the game can be played in an offline mode without human racers present.
