Shadows of the Damned

Shadows of the Damned is a third-person shooter starring the Mexican demon hunter Garcia Hotspur. His girlfriend Paula is kidnapped by Fleming, Lord of the Demons, and even though he is initially unable to stop him, he follows him into the underworld to get her back. Garcia is assisted by his sidekick Johnson, a skull that can take on different types of forms. It acts as a torch for melee attacks, but can also transform into a pistol, a shotgun or an automatic rifle. Each of the three gun forms can be further upgraded by collecting blue gems left behind by bosses. There are also red gems that are used to upgrade the other abilities, along with health. Health can also be restored through alcohol.

Darkness is an important part of the gameplay and the environment puzzles. Garcia can only reside in dark areas for a short time before his health starts to drain. This can be avoided by shooting and lighting goat heads, setting off fireworks or killing the demons that spread the darkness. For these events a special light bullet needs to be used. Garcia meets characters such as Colonel, and the half-human half-demon Christopher who acts as a salesman to purchase goods.

Certain levels have complete different gameplay and resemble mini-games, such as a 2D side-scrolling shooter with very different art design for instance. The action is often over the top and the conversations carry a humorous tone.

Shanghai

Shanghai is one of the first video game adaptations of the tile-based game played with the Chinese mahjong stones - essentially a puzzle game that has little to do with real mahjong rules.

The gameplay involves 144 tiles, each depicting different images, which have to be removed by matching them into pairs. The tiles are arranged in a gridded pattern, which is higher near the centre. A tile can only be removed if it has no tile next to it on at least one side.

This computer implementation can generate a random board layout to take on and features five preset challenges, some of which have time limits of five or ten minutes, as well as a multiplayer mode.

Shanghai II

Dragon's Eye is an installment in the tile-matching game series initiated by Activision. Players try to remove mahjong tiles in pairs from a set pattern. Different versions of the game have up to eight different tile sets, twelve patterns based on the animals of the Chinese zodiac, and a layout editor for creating patterns.

In addition to the standard mode, the game also features "Dragon's Eye", a two-player Shanghai variant. Players take turns adding and removing tiles from a small field with one player attempting to remove all the tiles and the other trying to position tiles to make this impossible.

Shaq Fu

While en route to a charity game in Tokyo, basketball star Shaquille O'Neal (called "Shaq" for short) is drawn into an alternate dimension by a local man who believes only Shaq can save his grandson. Once there, he must fight a succession of 11 opponents, one at a time, with gameplay resembling Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat.

The game's graphics used similar rotoscoping techniques (similar to those used in Flashback or Prince of Persia) making Shaq's 7'2" frame is represented. As well as the story mode, the player can play individual fights, either with 1 or 2 players, although one human player must always be Shaq. Shaq can jump a huge distance, although he struggles to block.

Sharkey's 3D Pool

Sharkey's 3D Pool is one of the earliest 3D cue-sports games, featuring a fully-rotating table and variable viewpoint allowing for much more realistic shot-playing than the traditional top-down game style (although the game can be played this way instead). The pace, spin and angle of each shot can be set up precisely before playing it. Both 8-ball (pot your seven colors plus the black to win) and 9-ball (pot the 9-ball with a shot that also hits the lowest remaining ball, whatever that may be) are included.

There are seven skill levels to work through. A trick-shot mode is also included, with 20 pre-set shots. Prior to each match it is possible to bet on the outcome.
